Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of this book is to give an introduction, and only an introduction, and outline of the Juvenile Dependency Court System in California to parents and relatives involved in this court system. The details and specifics of any one particular case, or type of case, are far more complex than what can be handled in a book of this nature. Further, my 28 years as an attorney cannot be summed up in an introductory book of this type. If you have specific questions you must consult with a competent attorney. This book is also written for the purpose of assisting parents and family members in figuring out what they should be doing during this process, and what they can do to assist their attorneys. It is my strong recommendation that, if your children are ever taken by a County social worker, or if you are investigated by a County social worker, talk to an attorney FIRST! Do not assume the social worker is your friend. The worst thing that could happen is you lose custody of your children, possibly forever.
